This film attempt to define what is deep and soulful House Music. Quite Short, but it’s always a pleasure to see Lisa performing on stage.

¤ In memory of a master jazz percussionist

Maxwell Lemuel Roach (January 10, 1924 – August 16, 2007) was a bebop/hard boppercussionist, drummer, and composer.
He worked with many of the greatest jazz musicians, including Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins and Clifford Brown.
He is generally considered to be one of the most important drummers in the history of jazz. R.I.P
One of my favorite album

¤ Introducing Luichez

I am glad to introduce another member of the Mi Casa S2 Casa familia.
Luichez will take part regularly to our music reviews and spread his African inspirations :

Although I can’t mix anymore, for technical reasons, I’m still working on the sweaty beats and heavy basses…
For the last two years, I’ve been around - between Lisbon, Madrid, Oslo, Berlin and so on and caught some wicked joints I’ve been playing for the nice public of Luanda.

Inspired by “Circuito Alternativo” – our once radio program – to, sometimes improvised, clubs like Teatro Elinga, Dom King’s Club, fake parties and real surprises, I’m glad to propose, the southside of Mi Casa S2 Casa :

THE BACKYARD SESSION (Luichez’s lost playlist..)

1. Jimpster featuring Capitol A- Left and Right
2. Kyoto Jazz Massive -
The Brightness Of These Days (Quantic Remix)
3. Clara Hill meets Atjazz - Nowhere (I can go) Atjazz’s Astro Black Mix [CD/Digital]
4. Headphonism featuring Anna Meta - Guidance - [CD /Digital]
5. Art Of Tones - Catch The Pig (Original) - Electrolush
6. Holmes featuring Dragonfly - Blue Skies (Martinez Cosmic Rework) [Digital]
7. Bebel Gilberto - River Song (Grant Nelson Mix) [CD/Digital]
8. Jazzanova - Boom Clicky Boom Clacky (Mr. Scruff’s Vocal Mix) [Digital]
9. Luisito Quintero feat. Francis Mbappe - Gbagada, Gbogodo [CD/Digital]
10. Bah Samba -Tired Little One - Estereo Recordings
[CD/Digital]
11. Johnny Fiasco featuring Jackie - All Right (Double Dub) Tonic Recordings [Digital]
12. Rasmus Faber - Get Over Here (Axwell Remix)
[CD/Digital]
13. Afefe Iku - Bodydrummin - Yoruba Records
[CD/Digital]
14. Buraka Som Sistema - Yah! - Enchufada [CD/Digital]

The essencial ingredient for this selection was groove. That’s all we look for…and you’ll find it throughout the selection.

1. The warm up round is launched by Capitol A, the MC with Barry White’s voice, performing on a really deep joint with a unclassifiable rythm created by Jimpster: “Fighting with my left & my right in daylight, but still living for night…”

2. KJM’s “Brightness of These Days” is still, I guess, a heavy rotation sound. But I didn’t know this Quantic Remix…if you’re in the same case, please check it out somewhere: smooth intro, wiiiiild outro!

3. Each time I find another Atjazz creation, I jump on it…and never regret it. This time, I discovered Clara Hill, a fairy from Berlin, showing her skills in a intensified version of “Nowhere”, with violins, batuque and a very heavy bass line.

4. I’m not through with the complex beats yet…Headphonism’s “Guidance” is definitely deep.

5. This “Catch The Pig” is a dancefloor heater! One of the best minimal houses of these last two years.

6 & 7. Speaking of dancefloor…Dragonfly followed by Bebel Gilberto bringing more summer to your ears.

8. Another Jazzanova joint with Mr. Shaun Escoffery. I first heard it on a Jazzanova compilation called “Broadcasting”.

9. For the next joint, an Afrobeat flavoured remix from Lil’ Louie Vega. Now that you’re dancing, I won’t let you go…

10. Once again, Bah Samba displaying a very soulful sound with a tribalistic rythm, remixed by Yoruba.

11 & 12. Do I really have to present Johny Fiasco? Don’t think so….Regarding Rasmus, once you’ll have the chorus in your head, it will stay. A good club hit.

13. Actually, I’m a great fan of Yoruba’s works. The name of the song tells everything you gotta know…

14. For the goodbye, I chose an angolan product. Our local electronic music is called kuduro, which means “tight ass”, and tends to make you shake it wether you want it or not. Performed by the lady MC Petty, this will probably be one of 2007 hits in Angola.

ALBUM SELECTION

Fertile Ground - black is… [CD/Digital]
Kinda oldie but really goodie!

Peven Everett - Power Soul [CD]
From Curtis to Prince, this guy takes the best of soul and restitutes it with a unique style.A very gifted brother…

Seven Dub - Dub Club Edition [CD/Digital]
Dub is deep right? So don’t miss this e-dub pearl, your ears wouldn’t forgive you!
